*Edit January 2010* : This coupon is expired – it was good until April 30th, 2009, but am leaving this up for reference purposes.

OK, it’s lunch time so I thought it appropriate to share a most tastey promotion that Harvey’s is having for their delicious Angus Burger series of hamburgers. Until tomorrow, April 30, you can get a second Angus burger for free when you buy one.

Note that while the photo on the coupon shows an Angus Mushroom Melt, the fine print clearly states that it is valid for any Angus Burger – at participating restaurants.

I used this coupon at the Harvey’s located in Boucherville last week and 2 Angus Burgers with bacon & cheese as well as a large diet Coke came out to about $9 including taxes. Sweet deal if you like real grilled burgers dressed the way you like!

29 Oct 08 Jambalaya Fettuccini from Boston Pizza the day after … mmm…

Well, I just finished what was left of a (really large, in retrospect) portion of Jambalaya Fettuccine from Boston Pizza in St-Bruno (near Promenades St-Bruno)… It was a treat from Oma, err, my mama, after a busy day of continuing the varicose vein surgery convalescence and cheering on Tristan at his MAGH-3 / Novice hockey trials.

Anyhow, the Jambalaya was delicious!…..

I’m still looking forward to trying out the pizza at Boston Pizza, as it isn’t exactly a bargain price: $13-26 for pizzas…. and as a colleague had reviewed in the past, he found spending $25 for a pizza over lunch a bit pricey.

Soft drinks are $2.99 with free refills. They offer wine by the glass at about $7.50 per glass, or $30-35 per bottle. The wine pairing suggestion with the Jambalaya Fetucinni was the Two Oceans Shiraz – I had tried this during the Montreal Jazz Fest at the SAQ booth and liked it quite a bit.

19 Oct 08 Levaquin, bronchitis, Passchendaele, vascular surgery and time with Oma & boys & the DFW / SO

So the Levaquin antibiotics seem to finally have gained the upper hand on the nasty (acute, as per the pre-admissions physician at the Jewish General Hospital said) bronchitis and accompanying fever etc that has hounded me for the last 3 weeks.

It was a great, relaxing weekend, with an early Saturday rise (somewhat) and the DFW/SO starting a well-needed re-organising of the boys’ rooms and cleanup in general. I had 3 eggs, 10 slices of bacon, 3 toasts with butter for breakfast (appetite is back) and 2 tuna/mayo/mustard sandwiches for lunch. After that it was finalising the cleanup and reorganising and furniture moving around, followed by relaxing and watching “So you think you can dance, Canada” (man, all of them in the top 20 can really groove!… all of them, but the blonde in the blue outfit, mmmmmmmm)…

Then some absolutely scrumptious Lamb Balti and Basmati before heading out for the 22:00 late showing at the ScotiaBank cinema of the new war & romance flick Passchendaele by Paul gross… it was great, if not quite in the “sequence” that we both felt it would be. The second half of the movie has most of the actual combat scenes and as it is a WW1 movie there is very overt and visually intense depictions of how close the combat was in the 1st world war….

08 Oct 08 Dunn’s Smoked Meat Recall in Québec – sold at Costco – may contain listeria

This is spooky.

I was actually tempted to buy the Dunn’s smoked meat package (huge of course, probably about 2KG).. and now there are reports that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning consumers not to use the individual smoked meat packages sold at Costco.

These are the 1KG packages separated into 6 pouches each weighing 175g.

The UPC code is 4 00007 55699 7 and the expiry dates range between November 1 and November 8, 2008.

They’re reported to be sold in Costco Wholesale outlets in Quebec – but also in Ottawa and the Maritimes…

Interestingly enough on a side note, the product is not really made by Dunn’s directly, but apparently under license by a firm called Les Salaisons Desco Inc located in Boisbriand, Quebec.

A few official links about this:

Official CFIA Recall Information about the Dunn’s / Salaisons Desco recall

Les Salaisons Desco: this is mysteriously mysterious. A quick scan of several online research tools seems to preclude any obvious website for this company but some other info:

They are SERVICE ALIMENTAIRE DESCO INC. at 97 Boulevard Prevost, in Boisbriand, Quebec with a postal code of J7G 3A1 and phone number (450) 437-7182…

They also seem to have numbered company as 9027-8672 Québec Inc. and Les aliments Q’Rico…

None of this is unusual as foodservice provider entities are generally low profile.

Now, I have the urge for a medium smoked meat at Schwartz! :D
