12 Nov 08 Life could be worse : Second school collapse in Haiti todayin Port-au-Prince confirmed by Red Cross

Child survivor rescued from rubble of La Promesse school in Haiti - Source BBC News

Well, I often have friends send me news items that show that “things could be worse” in an attempt to make light of my relatively minor stresses and foibles that are part of everyday life in our reasonably comfortable country…

So there is news just coming out new about a second school collapse in Haiti, apparently in Port-au-Prince and confirmed by Dr. Jean Pierre Guiteau, an executive of the Haitian Red Cross. Hopefully the casualty numbers won’t be as terrible as the collapse a few weeks ago at the ‘La Promesse’ school in Petion Ville, Haiti… they had just begun the demolition of the remains of La Promesse yesterday.

At the moment, there are reports of 9 victims – primarily children with severe head injuries – although this number is unfortunately sure to rise.

There’s little news since I just noticed this on my various RSS news feeds but there will probably be more details on BBC News Haiti and CNN as well…

One of the better sources for Haitian news updates outside the mainstream media is from The Zen Haitan / The Haitan Blogger

Voila, ca pourrait être pire.
