24 Nov 07 CTV W5 : The Suicide Tourist .. 2 hour special on Swiss group Dignitas - Craig Ewert story…

This looks like a pretty incredible show - about Swiss group Dignitas that assists suicides. I am not so sure I want… or need.. to watch this this evening.

I am sure it will be incredible.

I will be heating up my Presidents Choice chicken wings to perhaps watch this from the comfort of my couch. Since the Habs aren’t on CBC tonight. Grrr…

4 minutes in and it segueways to Harrogate England… more to come

Interestingly enough, CBS 60 Minutes II had a story about Swiss assisted suicide back in 2003!

and I think this clip from The Hour with George Strombolopoulous and the director of the Suicide Tourist .. quite riveting :(

    Hello Robin,

Thank you very much for blogging about the film. I certainly hope you found it worth your time and energy. My father’s decision to be filmed was a huge step for my family and it means a great deal to me to see the word get out.

Best wishes to you and yours for 2008 -

    Ivan Ewert

    Ivan,

Your family is incredibly strong. You’re very brave to share your story with the rest of the world. I admire you and your family for doing so.
I strongly support assisted suicide. Sure it’s controversial, but it’s an important issue that needs to be brought out in the open.
I’ve also been supportive towards Robert Latimer and the case of his daughter Tracey. I wonder where the compassion is for human beings? Why can’t a person have the right to die when faced with a terminal illness and prolonged suffering? Afterall, our pet companions have the right to euthanasia!
With people such as your family speaking out, and with other’s support, the government will have to listen at some point. My condolences go out to you and your family on the loss of your father.

    Dear Ivan,

I watched this film in german language, as it was broadcasted as doku movie the last few days here in Switzerland.

It made my eyes water and I was touched in a way I never thought I would.

I feel every one should have the right of choice to end his life in dignity, so your father made the right choice. He had fear, but he was very brave!

I was wondering, were in England he lived as I saw the movie and I hope he is at a good place with no pain.

My condolences to Mary, you and all the family members,
    Richard.
