01 May 08 She suffers from fear of cold errr … Cheimaphobia or Cheimatophobia

A quick lunchtime thought.

Well, yesterday a certain someone mentioned in a moment of confidence that she was suffering (!) from “fear of the cold”…

Of course I laughed – until the ice tentacles (other humans refer to as fingers) grabbed my warm and susceptible ribs.

It turns out that there is, naturally, a medical term for “fear of cold.” So what is Cheimaphobia a.k.a Cheimatophobia?

Well according to Change that’s Right Now:

Defined as “a persistent, abnormal, and unwarranted fear of cold”, each year this surprisingly common phobia causes countless people needless distress.

To add insult to an already distressing condition, most cheimaphobia therapies take months or years and sometimes even require the patient to be exposed repeatedly to their fear. We believe that not only is this totally unnecessary, it will often make the condition worse. And it is particularly cruel as cheimaphobia can be eliminated with the right methods and just 24 hours of commitment by the phobic individual.

CTRN offers a guide to vanquishing that fear of cold… for just $147.

I have a novel idea: seek warmth and stay out of the cold. Voila. :)

Working for a while now with energy scientists, we know that cold in itself doesn’t exist, it’s merely lack of heat. ;)
