OK, I fail to understand how Austrian Josef Fritzl was convicted of rape (and imprisoned for 5 years) back in the 60s and was then subsequently allowed to legally adopt 3 children that he bore through his daughter Elisabeth.
I suppose the Austrial legal system has its fair share of abysmal loopholes…

Well, it’s not the most appetizing subject to write about over my lunchtime – mmm that pasta was delicious!
But anyhow, yesterday I wrote about that mindboggling case from Amstetten, Austria about Josef F. – now identified as Josef Fritzl, accused of holding his daughter captive for 24 years and raping her multiple times resulting in 6 “grandchildren”… today there was more news trickling out, including a photo of the suspect (courtesy Reuters) ….
So we learn from Austrian police investigations that Mr Fritzl is an engineer retired from Zehnter Construction ; that the names and ages of the children are Kerstin, 19, Stefan, 18, Lisa, 16, Monica, 14, Alexander, 11, and Felix, 5… and that there was a seventh child who died a few days after birth because of neglect.
And here I thought that the Saw series of horror movies was over the top and unimaginable…

Well, I’ve always been one to give the benefit of doubt to people (and mankind) in general… preaching to Zachary and Tristan that people are… good. But it’s freakish stories like this about Josef F. of Amstetten, Austria that … test my faith in that goodness of the human race.
EDIT - April 28: He’s been identified and more details about Josef Fritzl have emerged.
In a strange turn of events, Josef F. appears to be at the center of a truly bizarre story in which he kept his daugther captive in his basement for 24 years… raped her numerous times which had her give birth to at least 6 kids.
Why?
This type of stuff makes me want to take a course in criminal psychology.
